In high school my sister was the master at giving herself a haircut at home. It helped that she had beautifully curly hair that concealed most of her haircutting mistakes. What about us women that don’t have curly hair? Is there a fool proof way to cut our hair at home? The answer is yes. There is a great technique that you can use to give yourself a nice layered cut at home!
The 180 degree cut will be a great place to start if you’re looking to create a style for yourself at home. You will want to be in front of a mirror and try to remember that what you’re seeing is opposite. Just get use to moving your hair around in certain directions so that you can get a hang of directing yourself in the mirror. Once you feel comfortable with the mirror, you will want to pull your hair straight up from the temples of your head to the top of your head. Once your hair is straight up from your head you will want to cut all of it in the same even line. Use a guideline of where you would like your first layer to start. If you would like it to start at your chin, pull the hair down to your chin, hold the guideline with your fingers and then pull your hair straight up. This will allow you to know where the rest of the hair should be cut as well. Continue this procedure until your hair will no longer reach the guideline that you’ve created. Note that in the third section, not all of the hair will reach your guideline. If it does not reach your guideline then don’t cut it.
Don’t expect to be a pro the first time you touch your hands to a pair of shears. You truly need to become comfortable with them and the way that you handle them. Before you start taking large amounts of hair off of your head, try taking an inch at a time. This haircut is not meant to take the length off of your hair, but rather to give you long layers. So taking a half an inch to and inch of hair off for your first time should not be too dramatic for you. For that reason, have fun with it!
